Why subscribe?

Rural Reflections–The Reboot usually publishes on Saturdays or Sundays, but there is no set time. If you subscribe, you’ll get it as soon as it publishes, no need to wait for a Facebook post or the Substack site. You can choose to have it sent to your email inbox, you can read it here on the Substack site, or you can use the Substack app. It’s your call.

The original Rural Reflections written by Ruth, with thoughts from yours truly added, will always be available for free to all readers. The most important goal of this publication has been and always will be making my grandmother’s writing available to a whole new audience.

Why go paid then, you may ask? Two reasons:

  1. I am under contract for a book, and contrary to popular belief, only rarely does a book contract result in a big advance, and yet writing a book costs money, mainly to carry out the research. For more on this, see Summer Brennan’s excellent post “Writing a Book is Like Going to Grad School.” By taking out a paid subscription to Rural Reflections–The Reboot, you are helping the book come to life.

  2. Writing this newsletter often helps me think through issues relevant to said book, in which my grandmother also plays an important role. Therefore, if you add a paid subscription, you will also receive semi-regular book updates (I’m shooting for once a month or so), a perk that free subscribers will not have.
